Great Weekend

Just finished spending a great weekend away from Kofu. Ate seafood in a restaurant overlooking the ocean while watching the sun set as the fishing boats slowly made their way out to sea for the night.
Currently reading Pattern Recognition by William Gibson. Downloading the movie Kalifornia with Brad Pitt and David Duchovny. I can relate to both of the characters in that movie, depending on the day I'm having.

The Novel Taunts

I completed the first draft of my first novel while working in Japan last year. I have been thinking that I should probably attempt going over it and turning it into a more cohesive second draft. Every and any excuse to procrastinate instead of taking on this task is employed. It feels very similar to my writing assignments while I was a student in a sense. Tonight I got as far as actually opening the document and reformatting the title page. I will start in on this tonight.
I just finished eating some peanuts that may have been sitting in my cupboard for too long. Feeling.. a little.. silly.. all of a sudden. Still going to write. Dizzy or not.

Lazy Day Off

It is a rainy Monday here. I have the day off. I check my email. Clean the entire bathroom. Do some laundry. Research my future ESL teaching options. Poke around at KofuWeb.com. Vacuum. Attempt to play guitar. Badly. Do dishes. Read a little. Currently reading Angelhead, by Greg Bottoms. Go for a walk in the rain. Ponder what my best options are for the next chapter in my life. Watch one of the three TV shows I currently have on the go; the Canadian brilliance of Trailer Park Boys, CSI Miami, or an episode of one of the most interesting TV programs to come out in a very long time, Six Feet Under.
Write a bit of the screenplay I am currently working on. Sketch something. I bought 'Drawing for Dummies' before I came over here. Clean the floor. Read some depressing online world news. Do some more laundry. That is about it for my last day off before payday.

Odd note; last night at 11:53 pm local time my cell phone went dead as I was typing a text message to someone. After I powered up the cell phone I looked at my laptop screen and noticed that the battery power had gone down 4% at exactly the same moment that my cell went dead. The computer has been plugged in for weeks. Battery power has never been affected while the thing was plugged in before. Interesting that the two things happened at exactly the same time. I have no idea what might cause something like.

What sound rabbits?

I told a Japanese woman who I just met that she should feel free to call or email any time she felt like practising her English. Late yesterday evening I got an email from her saying that birds chirp, lions roar, dogs bark, but what sound do rabbits make? This stumped me so a few minutes later I'm at www.ask.com typing in 'what sound do rabbits make' to see what Jeeves has to say about the whole thing. Turns out most rabbits sometimes make soft grunts and that's about it. I informed my new friend of this.

'I don't need ambulance!'

I made plans last week to meet a woman for coffee. About 5 minutes before we were to meet she sends me a text message saying that she just fell and broke her leg and that she couldn't meet me. This seemed a little odd so I texted her back saying that I had called the authorities and sent an ambulance to the last address registered to her cell phone number. She texts back saying she doesn't need an ambulance!!! (her exclamation points) I text back asking to confirm that she is home alone with a major appendage fractured yet she doesn't need medical help? She texts back saying that she is staying in a guest house and that she and another tennant will walk to the hospital. I text, walk? did you break your arm or your leg? There is a pregnant pause and she texts, leg. I text back saying that you can't cancel an ambulance once you order one and that when the ambulance guys show up at her place she should explain to them why she is sitting there with a broken leg but doesn't need help from the ambulance attendants at her door. She texts back, I don't need ambulance!!! I give it a minute then text back that she should say her grandmother died or that she just can't make it when she is breaking coffee plans with someone because claiming to be home alone with a broken leg might send some people into a panic. And that was that for my coffee plans.
