Bit Part

I read for a small part in a small movie this afternoon. I think I found the whole thing a little too comical. Not sure how impressed the casting person was. Something tells me I didn't get the part. Still fun.

Pioneer

I mentioned in a previous post that my great uncle was the priest in this area for many years. I didn't know this until I had lived here for a few months. This was a while ago. He was involved in building (physically and spiritually) the catholic churches in this area. I have seen older photos of this area and there is a small triangle shaped church in the background of these photos. That old church was the first one he built. He was very well regarded by everyone I ask about him. He liked his wine on occasion. And when the wine came out the guitar usually came out. He apparently wasn't gifted at either guitar or the singing that followed but was accommodated by whoever was around. He became fluent in two of the First Nations languages while he was here. The current Monsignor here told me of a story about how my great uncle was preparing for mass one Sunday and he noticed some security looking men had entered his church. A few moments later Pierre Trudeau walked in to attend the service. My great uncle was also involved in building the small church in these photos.

Born To It

Woke up this morning and looked out from the balcony of my apartment to see a pretty good little blizzard happening outside. For those fortunate enough to live in this part of the world that circumstance can only mean one thing on a non work day and an occasional work day. Hit the mountain. Took these photos this afternoon. Conditions on the top two thirds of Mother Whistler were absolutely perfect.

Vancouver Day

Spent part of yesterday in Vancouver. I didn't get to see even one take down while I was downtown. The cherry trees are in full bloom right now. Took this photo.

British Columbia, Canada

Yesterday I walked Long Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. Today I enjoyed spring skiing at Whistler, North America's number 1 ski resort. And tomorrow I'l be dodging crossfire in Vancouver while handling some admin. Vancouver is like a crack addicted supermodel who wants my company. I know I shouldn't but I can't stay away. Self-portrait from my ski day today posted.

Tofino Kiss II Cont'd

More photos from same trip. My life circumstances are certainly different now compared to the last time I was lucky enough to walk Long Beach.

Tofino Kiss II

I set out for a drive on Saturday morning not sure where I was going. The last time I did that I ended up in Banff. This time I went back to the Long Beach, Tofino area. It remains incredibly beautiful. Took these photos. Some of them are no hell but still a great mini vacation. Very mini. I wrote a name in the sand for the waves to wash away. Kind of a gesture.

Fresh Tracks

Whistler does this thing where if you arrive very early and pay a few extra dollars you can be on the gondola before the hill opens. They have a buffet breakfast at one of the restaurants at the peak and then you have access to the mountain before it opens to the public. I was fortunate enough to do this today. You really are the first person down some of the runs. You get to look back at the carvings you made in the powder you just skied through. I ran out of legs at around 2 this afternoon.
