Goodbye to 2007

I had a very enjoyable day skiing the other day. My legs still don't seem to want to completely co-operate with me. Also enjoyed two huge Christmas meals with different members of my immediate and extended family.
I was going over the year, trying to salvage some positives from where my life has gone in the last 12 months. There really isn't much progress to report in most areas of my life. I finished my third screenplay. Am halfway through my second novel. A woman I know recorded some lyrics I wrote into a song and put it on her album. That one might actually turn into something. My employment was like something out of Monty Python this year. Cost of living was too much for my earning potential in the situation I was in out in good old Vancouver so I went back to Japan. Was having a nice enough time of it for the brief period I was there until I figured out what my employers were all about. Adios. That's a positive thing. I would have settled in there and wasted another few years of my life teaching ESL in Japan.
A jaunt across the pond to the always ethical ESL scene in South Korea. My workplace was a psych ward even by Korean language school standards. I get accosted by a lunatic bank security guard with a gun and hop on a plane hours later. The people I was working with at my main employer there have provided me with a great deal of material for my impending comedy debut. I have enough material now for a first attempt. Just need to practise it a bit.
Back in Ottawa, Canada to ring in the new year. It's nice to have the network that I have here. Ottawa is the best city on the planet in which to raise a young family.
I will in all probability be based out of Montreal in the coming weeks. Now THAT is a town I could call home for a while. Love that city.
Still can't put my finger on much progress at all this year. There was certainly no lack of travel. Some creative stuff was accomplished. I regard that as a hobby though. I'm in the process of greatly improving my employability. That should be completed in mid-January. The company I am looking at for a driver job has operations at a few different places around North America. One of their bigger hubs is in Vancouver. I'll probably request a bit of layover time if and when I am in the Vancouver area. Someone asked if I was ready for another run at travel yet. My job is going to involve travel all over North America. That should take care of any itch I have to be away.
I'm pretty sure there's a big fireworks show on Parliament Hill on New Year's eve. Will probably go and check that out. I'm back in class in a few days. Off to work on the novel in a coffee shop. Happy New Year.

Mind if I use that bit?

I mentioned that I am currently living with a guy who does comedy and has performed in front of audiences for many years. He just got back from L.A. where he performed in a club. We were discussing a funny little aspect of his life. I saw the comedy in the situation before he did. I found myself asking him if he minded if I used it in my act. I am ever so close to having the required amount of material to go onstage and feel the spotlight in a comedy club. I need a few more little tidbits and I should be set. Just need to rehearse it a few hundred times before I take steps towards performing for the first time. I anticipate my first few attempts at comedy being so bad that I eventually laugh about how uncomedic it was for years to come. It isn't cutesy/ feel good stuff, my material. Lots and lots of swearing is involved.
I am also about halfway through my latest novel. I am capable of driving an 18 wheeler tractor/ trailer combination through congested urban areas as well as travel at high speeds on open roads. I have done both with success this week.

Old Blue Eyes

This genetic research thing has me very captivated of late. They've discovered with absolute certainty that when a person with blue eyes has a child with another person with blue eyes there is a 100 percent chance that the children will also have blue eyes. There is no chance of variation on this. Blue is the only eye colour that this happens with. If two people with brown eyes meet and have kids there is a possibility of the children having eyes with another colour. Green meets green can have kids with eyes of another colour. But with blue it is a genetic oddity that the offspring can only have blue eyes. This knowledge may have caused some very serious marital strain for previous generations.
I wonder what the Nazi regime in Germany would have thought of the recent breakthroughs in genetic manipulation humanity has accomplished. Or what they would have thought of our motivations for doing so.

Big Ride

I drove a truck that is used to haul large trailers for the first time today. It was kind of a rush to be handling a machine that size.

TV Nations

I haven't had exposure to much TV in about 5 years. There seem to be reality shows now where people compete to get on a reality show. If I'm following it right. I can sit and watch sports highlights for 17 hours at a time. I sat through an entire Clint Black country music video. The cadence of country lyrics does it for me lately. Alan Jackson is as gay as a French horn. Figure skating pisses me off for some reason. I actually start to feel anger if it goes on for too long onscreen. Obama is the next president of America. And someone takes him out within six months.
